The Hertz Corporation Vendor Network Manager in Bannockburn, Illinois

General Responsibilities

Donlen, a Hertz company, is seeking an experienced vendor management professional to provide leadership for a $1 billion annual purchasing base across Donlen’s vendor network. This involves direct responsibility to strengthen relationships with key vendors as well as leading a team of vendor network specialists.

The Vendor Manager will lead the transformation of the vendor management department from a narrowly focused issue resolution objective towards a broad value driven business unit that identifies, negotiates and implements revenue opportunities within the purchasing base, improving network performance for customers and Donlen alike. In addition, a key deliverable of the team will be on strengthening SLAs of key vendors and help driving network utilization across the business.

  • Develop, maintain and strengthen relationships and maintain and improve favorable contracts with key maintenance vendors categorized as National Accounts (Firestone, Jiffy Lube, etc).

  • Develop scorecards for all vendors and provide vendor performance tracking and feedback to vendors.

  • Partner with Procurement to source new vendors using procurement best practices and supply chain management techniques to enhance Donlen margin and customer value.

  • Provide the business with a source of vendors to establish strategic partnerships enhancing Donlen’s value proposition and offering across Donlen’s product portfolio.

  • Collaborate with Risk and Compliance teams to create a Vendor profile screen, and ensure Donlen conformance to that screen in soliciting vendors for our networks.

  • Improve coverage and quality of Medium/Heavy duty truck network to enhance product performance.

  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with and maintain and improve favorable contracts with OEMs (Ford, GM, FCA, etc.) to maximize efficiencies and economies across Donlen’s service offering (vehicle purchasing and servicing).

  • Develop, maintain, strengthen, and expand a network of acquisition related vendors (i.e., dealerships, upfitting vendors) and maintain and improve favorable contracts with such vendors.

  • Maximize vendor network utilization across products and services through identifying such opportunities with existing customers, as well as with new customers in the onboarding process.

  • Implement defined strategic vendor network initiatives aimed to improve the customer value of the vendor network along with strengthening Donlen’s competitive advantage.

  • Work with key vendors to streamline and improve quality, efficiencies, service delivery and price dimensions of maintenance repairs and services provided to Donlen customers.

  • Create negotiation strategies and consummate advantageous contracts.

  • Optimize sourcing procedures to attain maximum efficiency.

  • Set goals for vendor base across products relative to coverage, utilization and income.

  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to build impactful, efficient and service oriented vendor relationships.

  • Work closely with the Legal Department to create, maintain and strengthen contracts with vendors.

  • Provide regular financial updates to senior leadership team on key vendor network data.

Mandatory Requirements


  • 5-10 years experience in a vendor/management/sourcing/supply chain capacity, with at least 5 years managerial experience

  • Strong financial and strategic business acumen

  • Deep negotiating experience

  • Experience in the automotive services and/or fleet management industry

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field from a four-year college or university. Master’s degree preferred.

  • In-depth use and knowledge of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint


  • Excellent negotiation skills along with written & oral communication skills

  • Strong customer management skills

  • Strong project management and leadership skills

  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships at multiple levels of a matrix organization

  • Strong data driven approach to maximize results

  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate strong prioritization skills to manage multiple initiatives and keep high level of focus

  • Strong organization skills and ability to effectively delegate work to team members

Preferred Requirements:

One or more of the following supply chain certifications:

  • Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)

  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM)

  • Six Sigma certification
